Wakeboarding / 4m Avon / 40hp??

Hi,

Anyone with the knowledge/experience...do you think I'll be able to wakeboard behind a SR4 [no longer a draining hull, holes blocked] with a 2001 2/S 40HP Mariner? I am not that large...only about 70kgs. Perhaps would have two or three people similar size in boat too. I thought this would work but some are less confident....

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Tom

Hi there
You should have no problem up to a level. I've got an old 4m searider with a 40 honda 4 stroke on it (less acceleration than a two stroke) and we had no problem pulling up wakeboarders. I'm about 85kg so with your weight you should be fine. The only problem you will have is that the wake is pretty small so its a bit limiting in terms of getting decent air. Other than that, and getting used to feeling the skier pulling the boat when they carve a turn, you should have plenty of fun.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply - that's good news then! Guess I could put a "fatsac" in the back to help the wake but then I might struggle with power.

Best way to improve things would be to put in a ski pole as that would give you more elevation on the rope, and then shorten the rope so youre right in the biggest part of the wake when crossing...but youll be fine for a bit of fun with the set up you have, and mucking around with poles etc is a real hassle.

Had our Searider for 20 years now - cant go wrong with them

You'll have no problem with that set up... the wake'll be a bit small but like has been said, get a ski pole or even a sturdy a frame!

Hi, I used to have a SR4 with a Honda 50Hp Four stroke and that pulled a wakeboarder no problem and often did it with 3 in the boat, I did not block up the hull either but still pulled fine.....Comment on the wake right though....or should I say lack of wake!!
