I think what the real issue is though, is to whether it's ever acceptable to have the throttle fixed forward with a lanyard cable, at full throttle, even if its a dead calm day?

I've always been taught that you can never know what might happen, and there is no way to react quickly, epecially as we were travelling in fairly close company, and if another RIB cut across, there would be no room for manouverability, let alone powering off...
Also we all know Solents have great speed in the calm, and even if they are about 2 knots slower in the rough than the Ballistic, thay make up for it with a much lighter and more comfortable ride
