Thanks for the Scorpion Guys

My 8.1 metre, stepped Hull Scorpion arrives tomorrow, ordered after the advice obtained from all you guys on the forum. I am very happy with my deal, she is called Tickled Pink, the first stepped Hull model in 5 years and used as the demo boat for the past three months. She runs with a 225 Mercury and full electronics.

I am very excited and keeping my fingers crossed for weather that is at least bearable over the weekend.

Once again thanks for all your advice and I hope to meet some of you during the summer of 2005.

Ollie

Excellent news. 'Tickled Pink' looked great at RIBEX - I'm green with envy!

Did you get out on the Round Britain Scorpion?

I'm 'tickled pink' for you! (Sorry - couldn't resist )

Talking of "Round Britain Scorpions" What happened to the two fire men who where supposed to be going round Britain in one in August? They made all the noises got all the publicity then disappeared.Alan P

I think that's the one I was referring to, Alan. According to their charity's website they are fog-bound in Scrabster - but that was back in the early days of August! Does anyone (qcamel?) have any news?

Qcamel - didn't you join the round britain guys for a leg down the East Coast?

I thought they were Navy/Ex-Navy?

How did they get on?

Congrats on the new RIB!

The round britain rib was called Awesome Fun and owned by a guy called Mike and Navigated by Ken. They had some pretty rough weather on their trip and suffered some extended lay overs, however I did the run from North Shields down the East Coast with them and enjoyed the trip greatly. They were sponsored by various people including the Navy!! They were also at the boat show on the first weekend with Honda, their engine supplier.

I will post pics as soon as I have them

Good luck with the Scorpion - I've done almost 2,000 miles since March on mine and it's exceeded all expectations. Tickled Pink has a good spec and will be great fun.

Marki, I would be interested to get an idea of the fuel consumption you get from the 225 Opti.

As far as a channel crossing goes I would love that, however coming from Newcastle makes it a little more complicated, what dates are you thinking of?

Scorpion Quality

Let's just hope that your new Scorpion is better built than the Scorpion i know about, the boat has been a pain in the a.. for the owner.

[QUOTE=qcamel] Marki, I would be interested to get an idea of the fuel consumption you get from the 225 Opti.

Fuel consumption has been much better than I initially thought. In June I went from Hamble to Isles of Scilly - 522 miles max speed 44 knots average speed 19 knots - mixed conditions 0.75 litres per mile and approx 16 litres Optimax oil. Naturally higher consumption at full throttle.I generally allow 1 litre per mile as a rule of thumb. I have always been a Yamaha fan and owned Honda 4 stroke as well but would have no hesitation in recommending Optimax.

They have completed the trip.

Met both the guy's at SIBS (we sponsored the comms for them)
Two really nice, down to earth chaps.
Not full of their own P**S and importance and raise some funds for a worth while charity.
Having just lost a very dear friend to cancer and knowing he spent his last few months in a hospice, well done to both Mike and Ken.

I think these adventures are made so much more worth wild when they are for charity and not just because "its there" type events IMHO of course.

Regards

Perhaps not the best balanced and informative statement ever to be posted

More info would add to the story far more.
