Alan W. - okay, you are the salty seadog.

Let me know your plans closer to the time, re weather.

About the trip on Saturday / cruise around the Bay - can go out in someone's boat if people want a run around, but will need a crew space and there is also the Blessing of the Boat and Crew at 12:00 on Sat. So, not sure how much time there is.
Depends on who is arriving Friday and how their hangovers are Sat!

There is no speed limit on the actual Bay, but the Rivers are both 5mph.

Keep in touch

Jools, re the POB(sorry, diff thread) - may be able to get a mooring for you, but there is enought space on the pontoons and I adv them you need 2.7 mtrs - this at CBYC. Charges in the Marina - tba
Speak soon.

I believe we can launch at all states of he tide from the Yacht club.

Think High tide is around 0900 if my memory serves me right

I guess the weather will dictate how far we go with SOC - but hopeully a good few miles with her.

Tide information:

On Sat 30th March for the Bristol channel is
HW 08:07 at13.3 mtrs lw 14:17 at -0.1mtrs
HW 20:28 at 13.1 mtrs

Sunday 31st March
HW 09:46 at13.2lw15:54 0.1mtrs
Hw 22:07 12.9 mtrs

Monday 01st April
HW12:24 at12.7 mtrs lw16:25 0.7 mtrs
HW22:43 at 12.2 mtrs

The above times have taken into account the changing of the clocks to BST on Sunday 31st March at 02:00 (or whatever daft time they change)

Cardiff Bay and Cardiff Bay Yacht club are not affected by the tide as they are inside the Barrage - so launching at any time is possible.

To get details of CBYC see http://www.cbyc.co.uk/
But please let ME know if you are bringing your boat and I will deal with the Yacht Club - will work out easier.

If you are escorting the SOC out into the Channel, you will get the tide with you - obviously. Tides are strong and high, so coming back to Cardiff and the Barrage, may be hard work - but I know you all got great boats.

Keith, the first bacon bap is on me - you just got to find me, but I will be wearing your sticker somewhere on me!!!

Keith,, how come Graeme got his stickers before me?

SOC is going to be taking the 12:30 lock out at the Barrage.

Lock outs are on the hour and half past the hour.
Lock ins - for those coming back, are on the quarter past and quarter to the hour.

The Barrage control is on Channel 18 - Barrage Control.

Yes count me and two crew in. (I think one of the crew has an airbed booked in your house already)

If the weather is half reasonable we'll run down from the IOM on the Saturday. Berth required suitable for an 8.5 Scorpion, ie in the best part of the marina close to the facilities!!

I'm tempted to say that in the event of rough weather we'll trail a 6.5 by road, but if it's too rough for us there may be no send off .................

Allen,
Glad to hear your plans.
Not sure who has got the airbed space booked in my house - have not heard from anyone definately needing space in my house - you gonna fill me in(oops, I should rather say..tell me)

What are your accomo arrangements for the Sat night?
Staying on the POB?
You know we have now set up base camp at the Cardiff Bay Yacht Club not the Penarth Marina? Re you mentioning berth closest to facilities in the marina. would you settle for clubhouse instead?

Keep in touch and don't forget your hairbrush!!

Eddie Allen told me he'd booked an airbed at your des res - but maybe what he meant ws that he intended to!
I've not made any arrangements yet, I usually wait and see what turns up.
I've lost rack a bit of what's going on and where, but I plan to not think about it until the week before when we see the forecast and really know what our plans are - but yes, I'll settle for the clubhouse.
I have some sheep shears I can bring ...

Well I don't find him "cute" - entertaining would be more accurate.

Mind, I do remember someomne at the Cowes - Torquay race last year likening him to a 'Munchkin'.

Now there's a thought to conjure with !!

He's not been on this forum yet, but rumour has it that he is going to register.

"Entertaining" is good!
but looking at the comments on this Forum, I would envisage that most of us can be described as quite entertaining!!!

More SOC business tomorrow, hope to arrange a few more parties.

Just sent out an invite to all major yacht / boat clubs in the area to join in the escorting of the SOC out the Bay and down the Channel - want to share the event huh! Most of them are aware, but slow in their planning.
Unfortunately, the Waverley - the huge paddle steamer that operates in the Bristol Channel in the summer, is not going to be in this area till May - somewhere up the Clyde during Easter - shame really, can take about 600 people. That is alot of waves.

Something to work on for the homecomming!
