So Happy....got myself a SR4

Well after a few months of searching, i managed to get hold of a sound little 4m Searider made in 1983.

It needs a bit of work doing and i want to fit a two seater console/jockey and a nice 50hp two stroke depending on whats available.

I will get around to searching the forum for the answers but for the next few days i want to spend my time scrubbing her down, getting all the bits and pieces i need to get her ready.

So if you dont mind can i fire some questions to the like of Nos, Dhd, Chewy, JSP and any other Searider expert/owner (sorry if i have failed to mention anyone specifically).

1. Where can i buy a nice 2 seater console with individual backrests, due to the height of my girlfriend and i (both over 6'), would prefer the seats as high as possible.

2. The deck has been painted orange, can i get matching deck paint and if so where?

3. The transom has a few holes where bits have been fitted and removed over the years, can i just fill these with a GRP filler?

4. As space is going to be at a premium, where would you recommend fitting the fuel tanks (2x 25L)?

5. The last one for now, does anyone know of a Yamaha 50 (like rocking horse sh*t, i know) to go on the back or am i wasting my time looking?

I am in cloud 9 at the moment and can't wait to get her on the water.

Thanks in advance guys

Congrats Gibbo,
you better take me off that list of experts I got my first RIB last year and it was a 4m searider with a 50hp merc. They are great!
I'd say the first thing to do asap is to get them holes sealed with a sealent and then think about filling them in.
There a manual start yam 50 on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/YAMAHA-50HP-LONG-SHAFT-PULL-START-3CYL-WARRANTY_W0QQitemZ280312980746QQcmdZViewItemQQptZU K_CarsParts_Vehicles_Boat_Engines_EngineParts_SM?h ash=item280312980746&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparm s=72%3A1683|66%3A4|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

1.Think John was looking at console on ebay, it was JBT marine that were selling em.

2.East coast fibreglass supplies do lots of paints, both international and ral colours.

3.Get some sikaflex and stainless bolts put some in the hole and around the bolt and do up just finger tight, let it go off then nip it up.

As for the last two I'm not sure and I've pm'd you.

BTW be wary when buying a Tohatsu 50 that they haven't come off the back of a zap or ceaser cat. cos they will have had a hard life
Are you the bloke that's just reduced DHD to tearsby buying a boat he had his eye on, but not too closely obviously

May be worth buying just for the engine, then sell the boat and trailer on.

With reference to the Mariner 50 on boatsandoutboards..

I sold one of those 50hp 3 cylinders Mariners last weekend for £1000, including a £60 remote fitting kit. Bill Hingham Marine quoted me a £1000 trade in value for my 2006, they are selling the 2006 model for £2200.
HOWEVER.. these are the short shaft version.. and would require hacking the transom on a searider down by 3 inches to make it fit. Seariders at best do not have much transom above the water when at rest.

DO NOT CUT YOUR TRANSOM DOWN... buy a longshaft.. Also those short shaft 50hp Mariners (actually are Tohatsu beneath the covers..) They wanted £800 + VAT to convert them to a long shaft.

I paid just £480 for a 4.5m avon of late, but refused to cut the transom down, for that exact reason..

I have had four 4 metre seariders, engined with 40hp yam 3 cylinder, 55 Yamaha 2 cylinder, 60 Mariner 3 cylinder, and a brand new 50hp 3 cylinder in 2006.

I would recommend Yamaha as the best brand stick with that choice if you can find one.

Generally I believe may be wrong but it is the short shaft engines you get on zap cats.

The avon is a tough little boat, can't beat them.

Transom holes..

Also transom holes, use epoxy resin, and will eb nice and strong. If you have any alloy plates on transom check beneath for rot / damage.

I'm with Badbaws on transoms-DON'T cut it down.

As for consoles, mock up the height in the hull you feel safe at before you go buying/fixing anything down. If you can't stand up at the helm, you may find it's better with a lower console like the original Avon and the ones Leeway sells as it'll throw you about less.
Mine had 2x25 litre tanks inside the console which were accessed via a cutout in the back of it.

After a good scrub down of the tubes and deck scrape;

http://rib.net/forum/attachment.php?...1&d=1237043883
http://rib.net/forum/attachment.php?...1&d=1237044226

Need to tidy up the transom a bit, any suggestions for tidying up the flooding inlet and outlet holes?
Also where can i get a nice transom plate front and rear (missing) possibly platic or metal?

What do you think of the A frame, I agree with Dhd, it looks a bit high?

Anyway a long way to go but coming along nicely.
