secure outboard hood

Is there a way to secure the hood of your outboard, i find it very concerning the ammout on ebay for sale, i bet they get stolen all the time.
also what about the controls, how does one secure them to the boat

Devon & Cornwall do the same thing. They claim a 100% success rate based on the fact not one motor with these on has been stolen (presumably the one next door without it is taken instead).

I'm not convinced I'd like my motor so open to the elements. Maybe not so in Cornwall but Cumbria where a GRP hood may offer better protection to the frost ?
