Round the Isle of Wight

Those of you local to the Solent who have been round the Island , what sort of amount of Fuel do you use and with what boat / engine.. ?

I believe its about 70 miles to get around ?

Did Warsash to Yarmouth to Needles to Lymington and back today in flat conditions , seemed to be doing about 2 miles per litre in the 4 Metre Avon Fuel injected 4 stroke although we werent being very economical. Managed to just about make it back on same 20 litre tank.

What do others use to get around the Island

It is indeed 70nm.

I use about 35 litres to get round - which works out at exactly 2 nm per litre

How do you

Measure your fuel consumption for your website logs , also what sort of revs do you do if you are cruising economically in an easy sea ?

The race boat running an XR2 generally runs about 1.75 litres per mile (with a bit of a safety margin!) I'm sure that doesn't really help you but someone might find it interesting!

It is only 55 NM around the Isle of Wight so you might like to re calculate your fuel comsumption as you are burning more than you think. Alan P

What fuel should I expect to use with the 135 optimax at 4000-5000 rpm?

What sort of time does it take

Fair enough. Although that doesn't change my fuel consumption. Its 70nm from Hythe round the IOW and back, while enjoying the scenery.

I record how much fuel I put in the tanks and trip data from the GPS into the log database, the computer then just divides the total distance the boat has covered by the total amount of fuel used. I usually run the engine quite hard, 5000 to 6000rpm range. 4900rpm is the most economical RPM for my setup.

Iow

I did the Warsah to Needles trip last week. Some rough points and averaged 2 miles per litre. 50 mile trip - 25 litres used.

If your going round in the near furture i wouldn't mind coming with you if the weather and time is right.

Regards

Nick.

PS I'll bring the beer.
