Steedy up lads. TMS is in the business of self publication this is his job. If he has embelished the truth to help fund his trip around Ireland and his product ( the modified rib/ rib modification service) I say Good Luck to him. Has he done any harm to anyone? No,
Did it take away from the enjoyment of the Event by those that took part? I suspect not.
Did he raise money for a good cause? Yes

Do we all get up in arms every time we read shite/ see it on the telly? I dont think so

This is not a mortal sin. A sin, yes, but not a mortal sin.

TSM

anyone in the business of self promotion has to carry the risk that when you go too far it will backfire - there is a famous quote about "for evil to triumph all that is required is for good men to do nothing". The same concept applies and for the lies to be believes all that is required is for those who know the truth to ignore them.

well there is embellishment and blatant lies.

Well I think he has. The next person who has a genuine challenge and goes looking for sponsorship now has a higher hurdle to cross; however the biggest harm - as the reality becomes known could be to Mazda's reputation.

are you kidding this is the internet - but I have been known to shout at the telly when it talks nonsense too.

I've got to agree with TSM's very reasoned words. I think everyone soon learns that if something is issued by anyone concerned with PR there will be a liberal sprinkling of fairy dust in the editing (I've just done it myself as "fairy dust" was not my first expression).

I don't know about anyone else but I found myself absolutely enthralled by the tales on here from (Oops! Almost said the competitors) the participants. Everyday on here we were treated to riveting narratives of the adventure.

When you consider all the effort it takes to organise an affair of this size and complexity I am more than willing to cut some slack especially so since I know that the memories of the venturers stoic bravery will well outlast any thoughts of PR fluff.

It sounds as if young Tom has gone to the same school as Bear. After a long time of being educated you come out with a degree that's instructs you never to let the truth get in the way of a good story. Its a shame that this new breed of "Adventurer " have to resort to down right bull shit to claim their place as self proclaimed Herod. We live in a world of lies and damned lies. Alan P

Well said.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Sir Ranulph Fiennes twice and hearing him talk to an audience of some of his adventures. Oh how i would like him to meet the "linley - swan - montgomery" joined up surnamed, pretentious wannabee double barrelled family and put them in their place.

Nothing new there then; Donald Crowhurst was doing this 40 odd years ago. Ended with insanity and suicide as I recall.
