Photo - Swell - a favour

Just wonder if I could ask another favour. Does anyone have a good (hires) image of swell. I need a photo of some of the wonderful swell that you get off places like the west coast of ireland but with no waves on top. Obviously it would need to be a nice clear photo - if your/a RIB was in it then so much the better!

The photo would/may be used in the RYA Advanced Powerboat Handbook that comes out over the coming months and you would get a credit at the front of the book (unless you didnt want it). You would need to have full rights to the image and send an email to confirm that you are happy for it to be used in the book.

Thanks in advance for those that have a dig round their hard drives!

Regards, Paul

Hi Paul
I have a video, taken outside Plymouth's breakwater looking to the Mew stone, sorry no other boats out there as it was the day after a massive blow through, if you can lift a screen shot from it your welcome.

Hi Ian & Trimix

Thanks for these - both are good. What I am really aiming for is something like the photo attached which clearly identifies the swell and the regularity of it. Sadly this photo is perfect but we have no rights to it so can't use it.

Anyone got something like the attached?

Thanks, Paul

Hi Paul
I would suggest you take you own camera over to Durlston Country Park and locate yourself near the Globe on a big tide.
A linear pattern on standing waves quickly builds up

They're a weird thing, standing waves. You get them in radio coaxial cables and you can also get them in your hands.

We often get 40 footers round my north Minch bit, but its gonna be 10 weeks before I'm back with the boat .... It's like climbing a mountain going up them .. We Also need a good 3 days west north west blow for full effect. Will keep this thread posted

Hi Paul. At the RYA conference at Wyboston, the RNLI guys had a couple of good pics of swell in their presentation. You could try them

Hi Paul, the company I work for has almost 5000 pictures of waves / swell. Drop me an email and I will point you to them and put you in touch with someone who can help.

Cheers.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the suggestions. The problem I have getting these myself is just like Bigmuz7's which is being able to get to the right place on the right day when the conditions occur. A photo of very obvious swell rather than being mixed in with various waves on the swell seems actually quite rare.

Hi Ian - the RNLI is a great suggestion - sadly this is precisely where the example I posted came from Cant use that photo as no-one is sure where it came from. Mick - will do re Youtube - thanks.

Trimix - have PM'd you

Thanks, Paul
