Patching repairs advice

Just got back from taking my wife for lunch (Birthday...having forgotten anniv last week ) to find my new project had been delivered by Simon (Havener) ....many thanks mate, can't wait to get started on her

She is an ex RNLI D class (Poole have also sent me her service record and Hasting where she was stationed, some old pics of her...brilliant!) and needs a bit of elbow grease, varnishing and an engine....she also has some holes cut in the floor by the RNLI.

I have some miltary spec Hypalon (possibly not enough though) from Avon and want to set about patching....any tips on cheapest place to buy bostic also appreciated

The two circular holes at the front will be patched inside and out...but there are also two slits in the floor (knife cuts about 6 inches long)...so my question is:

1) should i stitch these before patching inside and out (or isn't it worth it?)
2) if so, what thread should i use to stitch?

Will be working on the boat as and when, but looking forward to getting it back on the water!

Dan

Hi Dan , i have owned a few ex D classes over the years and normally fixed the two circular holes in the floor with normal single standard hypalon patches ,its normally the ex publicity boats that have the holes cut in so people wont be tempted to use it ,the slits in the rear section i have never come across before but i would stitch with rot proof thread before glueing a patch over .

also if the boat has the bottle screws for tensioning the floor up in the bow its not a bad idea once a year to compleatly unscrew and lightly grease the threads with some waterproof grease ,,saves hassle in the future .
