My next rib

Ok so I accept that my humber 5m assault is not the best rib out there by a long way
(some would say shite!?)
So what shall I get next?
5 metres is a handy size for me because it means I can push it in and out of my garage and its easy to manhandle.
Biggest engine or pair of engines that can be fitted without too much chine walking, two stroke only for power to weight ratio.
Fuel consumption doesn't really matter too much.
To be used in the Bristol channel off West Wales for occasional safety boat work plus general pratting around.Needs to be a good sea boat.
I prefer jockey console style to leisure type ribs.
Preferably used.
Engine(s) probably sourced seperately as I can fit it/them easily enough, age of engine(s) less important than condition, perhaps twin ex RNLI evinrude 70's?.
I have a range rover sport to drag it with and a tractor for launching.
I'd like to be able to get at least 40 knots out of it, 45 or more would be better.
Suggestions awaited..........................

part ex your range rover sport (40k) for a used Disco 3 (15k), sell your assaut (4k) buy a one year old ex demo 6.5m rib with a 150-200hp 2 stroke with the difference and proceeds (25-30k) and if don't fit in your garage, buy a cover!!

Anyone checked out the boatmad forum? those guys consider adequate power for a lightweight 18 foot boat to be 260hp!

Similar money ..but it was more boat than that .. I wasnt in a rush to sell either, and it was a good time to sell in the spring.. that said ,.. I wasnt waiting for christmas though ..

45 knots in a 5m is going some! I'd aim for 40 tops i think. My 5.5 destroyer with a 115 etec feels like it is about to take off at 40.

Well, it would be safe to say it's not a Deep V hull so won't handle the big choppy stuff as well as some. But believe it or not, even a Dory can give a comfortable, fast ride on certain waters. (and due to the low freeboard makes rescuing sooo much easier). Probably "not suited to my current use" would be a more PC way of phrasing that!

Usual array of ex industrial stuff is probably what you want. If the Attaque fits your garage, an O-Pro 2m Beam will give the deep V with (I THINK) the same toobs on top. SR4.7 is rated for Twins, although I suspect the actual rating is a mild irrelevancy in your case!

on a 5M? Is your real name D. Campbell? On a more serious note, if you like twins and don't mind a bit of faffing (read: rebuilding in a worst case) the Merc Clamshells are uber lightweight & slim and have super slim legs (so less drag). Powerheads also quite compact, so could potentially get two 50s or 60s on the transom if you really want a mad flying machine. (also they only weigh 82KG!)

Probably irrelevant if you stick at 5m. I chuck mine in with a Focus, & know people who tow bigger with a Vectra.
45 Knots on something that small I suspect you might want to chat to the likes of Cookee!

if your hoping for 45 knots, i may have to buy your 70 evinrude from you and get another to compete, my 38knots will seem slow and Conor will end up buying another new engine.

So the deep v hulls with the tubes mounted high up in 5m or thereabouts are ribcraft,tornado and humber destroyer/attack ??

I had a 5.3 Humber Assault and franckly it wasn't bad. A Searider 5.4 was better but not that much. If you're happy with Humbers build quality (or lack of it in recent years I am told) then an Ocean Pro/Attaque could be a good choice. Or a Ribcraft 4.8 if you have the money. It wont feel any smaller than a Humber 5m and remains narrow at 2.1m.
