My new toy

Hi All, I'm new to RIBS but not to boating, we had a bigger power boat for many years.

This afternoon I picked up this from a friend of mine.....

MobileMe Gallery

...... it's a Valiant, as you can see, 4.5m with a Selva (Yamaha) 50hp four stroke. It's not a boat I've seen before and cannot find any info on it but intend to use it for nipping over to IOW from Chichester on sunny days.

It needs a good clean up and a bit of TLC but can anyone advise the best way to clean the hull as it's sat in a river for most of it's life and never seen antifoul, can anyone also tell me what size anchor I'll need? I had a good look over it and it seems in very good shape with the exception of the prop.

Expect I'll be a right pain on here while I figure everything out and will post an up date of a gleaming and shiny RIB very soon!!!

Thanks.

Welcome!

Your link did not work for me.

Put the boat on a trailer, take it to your local jetwash or buy a Pressure Washer. Then clean it. That's the best way. Once the hull is dried up then do a through inspection to see if it needs repairs etc..

Your rib is light, so look at this post for anchor: Anchor questions...

Never owned a Valiant Rib so can't comment on its capability etc..

Not sure what happened with the link, the hull has one or knocks to the gel at the front but nothing serious, ideally I'd like to whip the engine off and turn it over for a proper tidy up but not really got the space.

Ribshop does sell rib cleaning sprays, buy a couple of them and they really make a big difference.
