This data cable sure ain't gonna look pretty when it's done. Seems some of the wires had come lose in the DB9 connector, and with it being an el cheapo ex-mouse one, I've had to take the dremel to it to get inside! Ah well, think i'll fill up the wholes with some glue to hold the wires in place, then cover up the wholes with some plasticard or something. Once it's done I'll do a writeup on putting the thing together and get a few pictures (providing it works that is!).

Ah well, back to the destruction...

Sorry to go off the thread

Jelly,

you can see the pin outs out http://home.cdsnet.net/~purple/proje...g/assembly.jpg

Matt
Don't stress too much about about blowing it up if you are only connecting the data part there isn't much chance of that. But if you are connecting power just check, double check and triple check the connections with a multimeter before pluging it in.

Good Luck. If you have any problems PM me and I'll give you a call.

Cheers

Mike

Nah not bothering with power for this cable, might do if I make another though.

Production of the cable has been delayed, as the solder we currently have is absolute pants and is refusing to stick to anything. Think I'll leave it to weekend and see if I can get a decent DB9 connector too.

Email sent Stuart. Also send that other stuff up whenever you're ready for me to have a look at em.

Anyhoo, back on topic. It seems flares are perfectly safe for use on a SIB, providing you handle them with care (which you hopefully would anyway). So I'll definately look into getting myself sorted out with some flares for when out at sea.

Cheers,
Matt
