Latest RIB International (June/July '06)

Wow! Hugo has really pulled out the stops on this one

If you're not a subscriber, get yourself to WH Smiths pronto... or somewhere you can purchase it!

In this issue there are details of new RIBs from Stimpson and Hunton. New Manufacturer Prime (I believe the Prime is a 6.5m class RIB with an very interesting stepped hull). Robert Avis tests a "Goldfish", there's a full test of a "Stingher" (but we'll gloss over that shall we ) and Hugo has done a bit about small RIBs. There's an article about RYA PB 2 in which DJL features, pictured aboard "Bojangles". I haven't read the interview with Mark Pascoe, but look forward to it - it's very well illustrated. The surf rescue article looks interesting too. There are articles on life jackets, marine VHF and rough water. The regular fishing series continues. There is information on dolphins, wind farms, and a long piece about Suzuki's new 300hp 4-stroke.

What more could you want?

Richard - do you have some sort of affiliation to the magazine or are you just a very happy reader?

Yeah, I enjoyed this one. But still hanker after more of the practical advice for somoeone who owns a rib and is off on adventures. I learned buckets from Dag Pike's book on Fast Powerboating. Incidentally, he says stepped hulls don't work below 50 knots. True?

Yeah I have to echo Bruce's comments. Its not like many of us are in the market for a new RIB each month so some more practical ideas on cruising, pilotage plans to popular destinations, decent event reports and the like would convince me to re-subscribe.

Practical Boat Owner is a bit to Heath Robinson for me but I'm sure RibInt could reach a sensible compromise halfway between the two mags.

Plus, if they have a long term test, why no articles on the purchase/specification/build/test sail etc??

Chris
