Isle of Wight

Does anyone know of any decent camsites near Yarmouth?

I am trying to organise a weekend on the Isle Of Wight from Poole via RIBs for around 20 of us (3 boats) and Yarmouth being the closest with a marina seems to be the most sensible destination.

Failing that, any other areas on the IOW would be considered but preferably as near to Lymington as possible, in order to pick up latecomers.

Have a look here: http://www.touristnetuk.com/So/ISLEW...ation/ac-camp/ The last one listed is near Yarmouth. More info about it here: http://www.orchards-holiday-park.co.uk/location.html

This one may be even nearer: http://www.heathfieldcamping.co.uk/

P.S. Richard (my other half) wants to know how you're getting on with your Humber.

Thanks again Louise... Sorry for the delay!!

The Humbers going very well!

Every spare moment seems to be taken up either working on it or using it!
Have fitted the A-frame and electronics now and on the whole am i'm very pleased.

A little problem has developed with the console in that it seems to be poorly designed. The two bolts securing the top of the console to the bottom bit are far to close to the edge of the fibreglass and have split out.
Alot of this is due to the sikaflex peeling away where the guys who fitted the engine had to remove the top bit to fit the steering pump and didn't prepeare it very well before sticking it back down. Seeing as the steering wheel is fitted to this bit, it's quite important it's solid. Easily repaired and strengthened but a little frustrating. Humber didn't seem too worried when I told them!

Apart from that, it seems very good. The hull is excellent and with five or six up is very well weighted and balanced. - You can plough through some pretty nasty stuff with very little problem in comfort.
We saw 55mph on the speedo last week 5up!
Gets a bit twitchy over 50mph with one or two up but also drinks fuel at that speed so it's good to slow down anyway!
The A-frame I designed and had build out of 2" 316 with a tow point on the top. Although I excercised alot of caution towing a wakeboard from it in the early days it certainly seems up to the job and has't been a problem yet! (He said not tempting fate!)

So there we go. One major item outstanding is the name. Thinking far too hard I think but must do it soon!
Any ideas??

Nick

Nick,

The orchards holiday park is not that near to yarmouth. Its probably 5 miles away which is way out of walking distance. Being a Yarmouth local, I don't know of any campsites that are really near although there is the Savoy holiday village or something like that and a Warners holiday camp very near. These have chalets that you can stay in.

Alternatively there are some hotels and B&Bs in Yarmouth town which would be even more convienient. If you do this then you can go out in the evening and have a drink and soak up the saturday night atmosphere (which may or may not exist depending on how full the harbour is).

Hope that help, sorry I haven't got any contact numbers with me but a search on some iow tourism site should give you info.

Tim
