Hurricane 590 deck plate

I’m having trouble with my fuel tank and need to get to it. There is a huge deck plate screwed down that I’m supposed to be able to get up. The previous owner use 5200 marine sealant when he screwed it down. I can’t get it up. Any suggestions?

Had the same issue on my Hurricane 640 which has the tank welded to the bottom of a large 2’ x 4’ deck plate. Bent a putty knife to work under the edge of the deck plate and cut the sealant. Took a while but got the tank out without damage to boat or tank.

I spent a few hrs scraping out the grove.
Did you heat the knife or just sharpen it and run it between the plates?
The guy that fixed my tube said he would use a heat gun. Do you have any comments on that?
My other question is what did you use to reseal. I was thinking of using butyl tape any thoughts?

You also might be able to help with the reason I need the lid up. When I got the boat the owner said that after running hard for about 25 min the engine would starve for fuel. He felt like the tank vent wasn’t working properly.
I put a new engine on and it does the same thing. Running about 20 min and runs out of fuel with full tank.
Thoughts?

Heat gun will work, but it will take you day(s).

It's a lip that the flat panel sits on. the gap between the deck lip and the flat panel, is a trough that is filled with adhesive caulking.

I'd just grind it out.

I ground out the stuff I can see is it a flat lip or curved

Pop small timber wedges in as you go . It helps to separate it. I used a water lubricated, thin, sharp blade. Oh and don’t forget to hold your mouth in the right position 🤬

the 5200 is tough stuff to remove, I removed mine but took a lot of effort. i used a small thin crowbar that i would tap under the hatch and break the seal. little by little. then i would insert a screw driver to keep the pressure pulling as i slowly worked my way around the whole hatch. took a long time. i was told that a profesional will use a hot knife . seems like they knew what they were doing
