I may have missed this but, can you fit/place/attach somehow a hood on the lens that says (something like, though not necessarily) SOS ?
This would then "expand" on the underside of a cloud in BIG letters ensuring it can be seen from a distance.
(Just noticed that SOS is also palindromic, AND can be read upside down), handy that).

nope - what you suggesting would needs a high power dangerous laser.

Greatland is only 5mWatt Class 3a laser, witch creates an expanding line , that reduces the intensity ...
