You certainly seem to have all the skills my fiend!.
For a Home rebuild I think the Bar has been well and truly raised!..is it a Marine background you hail from?
Be good to see the finished product, power to you!

A 10k total! ...(plus his labour of course)..which HAS to to be a Labour of Love!..for a Large-ish capable Diesel..Pretty much Custom Cruiseing RIB is a pretty good incentive

I dont want to be sceptical - but that has a bit of a feel of Grand Designs... I'm gonna build a 6 bedroom family mansion for £50k feel about it... ...only to be sitting at the end saying "Well we did go a little over budget but look how great what we built is..." with a little over budget being £300k. Still a bloody good house for 300k but a load of hassle building it etc,..

Yep...very possible outcome...but at the end of the Day...and to continue the House analogy,
AFTER all the Hard work and hassell they VERY OFTEN like you say..end up with a "bloody good house" for the money!.(.or in this case a RiB)
While alot of us more timid souls continue on the treadmill, and make all kinds of excuses NOT to take the Bull by the horns!...and look on with awe!....
That's why it make good telly!
I reckon your man here is truly Skillfull, and for sure will learn a lot more along the way, like he said it's his first RIB!.. I truly like, and respect his can do attitude!!..and I for one am enjoying the rebuild as it unfolds

To make this boat rebuild into 'good telly' we would need:
- some crazy plan... Perhaps a glass bottom?

- a contractor to fail to deliver on time / some other jeopardy

- some pointless commentator who reminds us what they are doing every 5minutes

So Mac, coming back on topic, that's a fairly big console. Looks like a small cabin area up front? are you planning to sleep in it routinely or just for emergency use? Will the floor level go below the deck level? are you going all domesticated with a head etc? interesting ttop too.

As usual all work stops for MotoGP, only qualifying but Rossi put in a great performance

Air saw came out this morning and the old console came off as well as removing the leg and engine. My little forklift comes in very handy for these sort of things especially when you are on your own in the workshop.

Maximus, yes marine background mainly but nothing to do with ribs up till this point however a couple of my friends are involved in this sector of the industry.

This started as just a project just for my own use but after people geeing me on it has evolved into something else as we build all of the moulds, if someone else wants one eventually then great but if not I am not going to lose any sleep over it.

Hehe, I have done one of the property programs !! I came in under HALF of my budget :-) That being said now I am just going to use the hull as a plug before cutting it up the budget has increased to £12k and I will be within that but remember I am in the marine industry so I do not have to pay retail prices.

Yes the new console I am making is very large, I am now going to be extending the hull out to over 9m as well as widening it slightly, increasing tube diameter, alterations to bow and chines etc etc. Seating for 6 people. Accommodation for 2 people, electric marine toilet, diesel heating etc etc for winter weekend adventures as well

Moto 2 qualifying is boring so I am going back to the workshop.

So if someone else wants one...

...you are bound to hit RCD issues.? Or were you just thinking the console?

Kin 'eck man! Why not just start from scratch?! All you're gonna be left with is a lump and leg from the 'donor'.

Not just the console, fully built ribs.
RCD issues ? I build to Lloyds SSC regulations, RCD and CE certification is a walk in the park compared with that 😎

Mollers, yes a low hours engine, drive leg, trailer, existing hull etc on which to form my own plugs and of course the motivation it gives me seeing just how badly this one was made. All in all I am happy with the way it is going, all I have to do is look at the cost of a new engine and drive leg to tell me I have done the right thing 😊

Well I can tell you all that flipping this up the other way in a workshop on your own is a mission!! my little forklift couldn't lift it on its own so that means that the bare hull as you see in the pic is over 2t !! something tells me that the rest of the forward deck, lockers and engine room box is also soaking wet so I went and got the other forklift to make it slightly easier but still only one of me to drive two forklifts and do the strops etc. Took me the rest of today to do but at least its ready for me to trig up in the morning and start marking out the extensive modifications to be undertaken

Not really much to see today as I have just trigged up the hull and sanded it all back with 240g ready for the modifications to start. My naval architect friend will be here on Friday to take some measurements, do his calculations and help me mark it all up for the more "technical" modifications to the underwater area. The aim is to increase rough weather capability and soften the ride as much as possible, I am not interested in ultimate top speed just higher averages when it gets nice and choppy

Current list of modifications:

Change forefoot
Remove lower forward chines (job partially done already from previous modifications)
Extend hull to 9m+
Increase Beam
Change sheer line
Increase tube diameter
Increase angle of tube flange
"clean up" the lines of the upper bow section as it is quite a "messy" shape currently
Change deck flange profile, angle and size
Alter chine profiles, angle and length at stern
Alter transom angle
Not entirely decided about a planing pad of some sort, I think for our goal it may have more negatives than positives but my friend will have the final say on that.

All of these are modifications that have to be either done to the hull or allowed for at this point before I can take a mould from the new hull design. Will post pictures of the modifications as they are done, any comments or observations on the modifications as we are undertaking them will be welcome. My own expertise is in high speed displacement craft so this is a bit of a baptism of fire for me anyway plenty to keep me busy

That hull does look a bit 'basic'.

It looks as if the builder/designer could only work in flats and straight lines and he whacked on all of the chine rails left in the workshop.

Triggers Broom , I like that for a boat name it might well end up on the stern

Mollers, nothing wrong with basic but it needs to be 100% right if it is basic. When you look closely at things like the the existing chines then you can see that the angles do not change where they need to but just remain the same throughout the length of the hull.

I guess only time will tell if we get the new hull design right

Glad you are enjoying the progress, I know that part of the world quite well and yes it should be ideal for your seas

Modifications start today, simple stuff to begin with and then the more complicated bits can happen next week once the calculations are done. Not exactly sure how much I will get done today as I have a few businesses that demand my attention as well, I will post some pics later today showing what I have managed to get done.
