Hi

we have just taken a clients 135 in and he wants less than 1K for it. still a mariner and a couple of years younger but basically the same engine and cheap.

as for who fault? sorry but I agree with the others i.e.. v hard to prove so it will all come done to does he believe he is wrong and even if he does will he have the decency to do anything about it.

Dave

Posted you a private on the above.
The problem I have with this whole thing is the engine ran fine apart from the floats not seating every time !! Started easily, pulled strongly, sounded good, circulated water fine. Had a marine engineer strip/clean the float chambers whilst on Kintyre & he thought that it was a good engine & sounded fine.
Trust me if it had gone bang between Carradale & Arran on full revs I'd have thought 'BUGGER' like probably everybody else who's ever owned a boat !!! However when a few weeks later you put it into somebodies workshop and they manage to damage it & take no responsibility you have to ask the question ?????

Pretty sure Preston marine are breaking a 115 mariner if you go down that route.

Tbh a repair is going to stand you a fair amount so I'd go with that 135 and sell yours on, you'd get around 500 for yours and you'd have more power to boot!

Not often I agree with Dave

I've already spoken to Dave & Cameron this morning. Nice fellas to deal with. Going to write to the firm this week but having spoken to them on the phone there's not a lot of help forthcoming ! Given that boating's a small world & customer loyalty should be a priority I've been very disappointed with this episode !
I'm a realist & realise **** happens but sometimes you've got to bite the bullet in business and go that extra yard as in the long term repeat custom in annual services/ winterising parts etc add up to quite a bit. Used to be in business myself selling/servicing high value items (shotguns/clothing) in the 80's & sometimes it cost me the profit+ to sort things out but those people came back year after year so long term we were the winners.
Can't escape the fact that something went wrong in the workshop so sort it out, don't just tell the customer his engine's now a pile of junk !!!

I'm welling up here.

My advice is pretty much as has already been said. Sell for parts and move on. You could put on a Honda 90 4-stroke. One here: http://www.ardoran.co.uk/content/pag...d=used_engines

Here's another option

251164098890 eBay that. Should find a speed boat package with 135 and trailer, 1,550 or best offer. Move the boat/trailer on for 800 sell your motor for 500 and you almost have a free upgrade

Also know of a Blackmax 200 available soon, around 1,700 I think
