Congratulations Stu (Rogue Wave)

The wee Welshman has just passed his RYA Yacht master exams, so congrats Stu

Dressed in immaculate white pressed and heavily starched shirts and shorts with gold braid on the shoulders we will have to get used to calling him Captn now

Pete

Hi Stu,

You obviously didn't regale the examiner with tales of your past seamanship "incidents", like launching the Scorpion without a bung, and cutting it off the wall in Yarmouth etc, etc.

Congrats mate

Congratulations and well done!

Hi Stu,

Congrats. My son Josh just did his commercially endorsed advanced powerboat (last night actually).

a) any ideas of work for him
b) is there any monthly gathering any more - I have been out of it recently with illness

Thanks

for all the good wishes.

Bruce its a Catch 22 situation for your boy really. I certainly wouldn't reccommend any body without experience to an employer especially somebody I didn't know.

so how does he get experience!

If I was him I'd be sniffing around Solent Rib Charter to see if they had any form of internship planned and could he get on it. I understand they have a big fleet based in Lymingtom.

If he wants to go down the proper commercial route it may well be worth giving Safety Boat Services a ring and seeing if they have any deckcrew jobs going If they do and like him he'll find himself soon driving a boat.

If he can habdle very cold nuts and mind numingly boring workscope he could always do safety boat/standby work either on a bridge or worksite.

If he wants to build sea hours and boat sense then get out with a few local tug companies. Tugboat Johnny at Poole occasionaly needs people as deck crew or Jenkins Marine. Tugboat Johnny is called Griffin Marine and Towage BTW

The tugging doesn't pay well at that level but over the last 10 years I have logged over 4000 night hours on tugs the same amount of day hours and I got paid for everyone of them. It also makes your deck skills very good

The conditions are awful as well but it's character building and the Skippers do know there stuff

To be honest I don't want to get into being a career advisor and I don't want to take the conversation any further cos it's a dog eat dog world but there are others on here who may well be able to help

I seem to remember Dougie Stormforce claiming he had about twenty boat drivers for hire so it might well be worth contacting him about a future internship. I also think that Sabre powersports have internships
