Hi Nasher and thanks for the thought.

However, Google Earth The Camber and you will see that it is an area ripe for development. The sad thing is tha even if BAR don't develope the site (Can't see that happening), it is now on the PCC (porstmouth city council) radar and they will look to develop it sometime soon. The best outcome would be for BAR to secure their tenure (they are committing to 3 Americas Cup Challenges) and stop a housing/wind farm development.

I can't think it's a bad thing for the area but hope they accommodate the leisure users like yourself.

Had a walk around the Camber last night. I see they have closed off the car park already and have the area that Steve will be moving to cordoned off.

Are there any plans to look over, would be interesting to see what the layout will be like? I'm guessing that fishing along the edge of the Camber will be stopped, would be a shame as I have many happy memories trying for Bass along that stretch.

Hi Andy,

The plans for the site (and masses of other interesting stuff) are available to view on the PCC website. It takes a bit of finding but if you can get to the "planning applications" page and search "camber", you can hours of fun looking at all the visuals.

Once the building is up, I know of no plans to restrict public access to the quayside (save for when craning and lifting operations are in progress). So hopefully you can fish, stroll, walk your dog, etc as much as you ever could.

Oh Man that bad news . I always use camber and the trailer park. !!
GUTTED as its the closest place to launch, park the trailer and park the car. !! I live in Northamptonshire so its a good run but doable.

The planning site is not that bad..... try the link... I must admit that having all that space now it will be a shock when its finished ..... It will be all very close together with narrow pats for cars and pedestrians to get through which is a shame as it currently is such a lovely spot but then again change might be good ..... We all need to send a note on this against the planning application, asking for trailer parking. These planning authorities just count the number of objections, so please write in. Camber is my favourite launch site and I would be sorry to lose it. You only have one day to do it!

To the best of my knowledge, I would say the following: -

You or anyone else are free to object. However, be aware that objecting on the grounds that you will lose a free trailer park will not be counted as it is not a valid planning objection. PCC planning committee don't just count the numbers of objectors/supporters (for and against) but summarise objections based on their validity (ie. 10 object on these grounds, 12 object on these ground, etc). An invalid objection (ie. "I don't like it because I'll lose my trailer parking") will not be counted.

So maybe you are wasting your time? But as I say, I support your right to object.

Sorry, also forgot to say that as of this weekend, it is likely that at least 40% of the existing trailer park and most of the car park will be closed whilst building work takes place.

Hi,

I've just taken part in a site meeting with various council "big-wigs" where the topic of trailer parking was discussed - and I mentioned the comments made on RIBnet.

I can say, that providing nothing changes, there will be provision of a trailer park just next to the slipway (and I didn't hear anyone mention charging for the privilege).

From discussion I would expect it to be of similar size to the current one.

I can't say it's definite (as it's not my decision), but if I was a betting man, my money would be on it!

Well done for representing us.

I did pop down yesterday for a walk and dropped in to see you but was told you weren't around.

Obviously it was a bit of a shock to see the whole of the car park fenced off, with just a few parking spaces where you probably shouldn't be parking.

It's a bit tight for your big lift at the moment isn't it

I watched your guys put a couple of RIBs in and liked the way the bow of the larger one had to be lifted up over the Bridge Tavern outbuildings to get around the corner.

I can't imagine what a disruption it is to yourselves, R&M etc at such a crucial and busy time in the year.

I hope it all goes well.

Cheers for the suppot guys! I'm not really responsible for what's going on, but I would like to see the slipway kept alive and that involves parking for cars and trailers.

It seems that BAR and the council "get it" and will try and sort out a solution to suit everyone.

I sincerely hope the current plans to provide a free trailer park for slipway users come to fruition. If I have any say (and it's limited) I will support it.

Hope to be able to report more good news soon!

Hi Alan,

Malcolm Hill is a non-elected, self-appointed person with no responsibility to anyone. Whilst he may be the "mouthpiece" for a few disgruntled "nimby's" he is not speaking for Old Portsmouth and certainly not for Portsmouth in general. However, he is entitled to his opinion.

the new leader of PCC was fully involved in the BAR project and it has "cross-party" support. So no problem with the current administration being on-side.

Moving on from politics, I would like to inform evryone that as of today, the car park and the current trailer park are closed.

If you really have to launch from there, speak to me and I'll help out as best I can. my number is 07899 075313.

The slipway is open, the Bridge tavern is open and the waterside parts remains unaffected. Unfortunately, work to remove lamp posts, diconnect electricity, groundworks for the new dry stack and fencing works mean that the whole carpark area is a "no go".

Steve... it will hopefully all be ready soon which gives customers a great facility to launch from. I think we all hope BAR will pick Portsmouth as its a great brand which belongs here. .. everybody should stay supportive on this.. good luck !

FFS! I use this place all the time. Kids love it as its only 2hrs from home.

Hi,
I'm afraid it's a bit of a mess at the moment and likely to stay the way for the immediate future (until BAR's building is erected). There is parking to be had, in both East Street and the Broad Street car park, but the main East Street Car park is full of holes and fenced off.

It's not my place to say, but there are no parking officers down here now (no car park) so providing you are not blocking anything in you can probably get away with parking your trailer in the road.If in doubt ask one of the KB Sstaff who may be able to help.
