Avon d5.6, what are they like?

Hi, what are Avon D5.6's like?, are they an older seasport?, am I right in saying they have a less V hull than the searider's and Ospreys' etc?

Medium-ish v hull - not as good in the ruff as say a SR5.4.
I believe the same hull as the Adventure 5.60.

Nice boats tho..

Not as deep a vee as a searider 5.4, but still nice tho will do about 33 knots with a 90 rated up to 115hp tho..
Higher bow than a searider so you stay drier tho!!

Is the V deep enough to help with the rough stuff? the other rib I have been offered is a 5.25 Osprey Viper

My neighbour's son has a Avon 5.65 Supersport, the sea-keeping is hopeless.

The outboard man did have a look at the Osprey Viper last friday, he said the engine was ok but is showing its age, he said the Yamaha pro engine on the Avon D5.6 would be a better choice, my local Avon dealer said the Avon D5.6 has the adventure hull and it would be ok in rough water, is this right or not?

Well, half right and half not so (IMO). But what do you expect from someone who sells these things? Do a search on here for Avon Adventure 560, or ask matt h - he had one (not for long)

What sort of money are these boats?

Martin - the only little bit of advice I can give you - is ......

1. Listen to the guys on here - they do know what they are talking about

2. Be patient - I really struggled with this one

3. Hold out for what you want so once you have it - you won't regret it

On a slightly different note - Nugent has his Osprey for sale - cracking looking RIB with all of the facelift documented on here

Anyway - apologies if I have in anyway come across as patronising - just speaking from my limited experience

Take care

J

Martin - sounds like you have similiar requirements as when we started looking - not sure on your budget - we had between 4-5k to spend

The most recommended at that budget range were:

Searider 5.4m
Humber Assault 5.5m
Osprey (can't recall which type)

As you can see we ended up with a Searider 5.4m - we paid 4k and have to say chuffed to bits - although it did take some looking

Enjoy the search - it's half the fun

same sort of budget, the 1993 osprey viper I have been offered is up for £3500, rib is in good nick for its age, the trailer is only around 5 years old, the Suzuki 115 is tired though, the outboard man checked the compresion and they were all good but he did find some slight wear in the leg where it pivots from side to side, this is probrally normal on a 93 outboard though, also he said it needed a new TPS sensor as the idle is up and down sometimes,I have also been looking at the Ribtec 535 on ebay with Yamy 85, same kind of money, I do like the Viper but was put of slighty when I got the report from the outboard man, the only other viper I can see for sale is the one on here with twin mariners for £9500
