That research would have taken a *lot* longer than a Google search...

I am really up and down on Chinese manufacturing. High end stuff can be very good to excellent (and you pay for it); most of the consumer grade stuff is really really cheap.

Google? 25 years ago?

What was that new fangled thing that a few Computing Science Students in MIT were stiching together back in the day when my boat was built called again.....?

My point is that Tohatsu were unheard of not that long ago, and lets face it - Who would have bought a Skoda back in the 1980s unless you really just wanted a cheeeeap car? Now - You buy one coz it's half the oprice of the Equivalent VW.

Which is why I said (as I have also done with Parsun) I'll just sit here burning Premix and watch how it evolves!

There's quite a difference between an emerging brand and a blatant rip-off, which is poorly made using low quality materials and chewing gum.

Chinese motorbikes with daft names return to nature after 12months.

I assume you mean Skoda is the blatant Rip-off? Go pop the bonnet of one - look around enough you'll see Audi circles on some of the engine components....

I think you meant "re-branded vehicle to allow sales to a wider audience and keep the price of the VW branded equivalent artificially high by not putting quite so mny toys on the skoda and specifying something like 0.5% talc content in the dash moulding* to make it look a little shinier and thus the VW more "expensive".....

Dyson was an emerging brand a few years ago......

Indeed they were, but I still say back in the pre internet 1980s if you had said to anyone in the boating world "I just bought a Tohatsu" The response would most likely have been "A what????"

...and when did Suzi really break into the EU / US markets?
From Wikpedia:
- First O/B in 1965
- Introduced O/Bs in Canada 1983

The Canada introduction is kind of around the time (Mid 80s) I first heard of them..... around the time when perceptively all japanese cars fell to bits & rusted twice as quick as the "local" built stuff..... I then experienced one on the Sailing club I was with at the time's rescue boat and ....realised it was the same engine as the Mariner on the other one.....

All I'm saying is watch this space - it'll go one of 2 ways. : Nobody buys them because they are unheard of, built atrociously and reliably unreliable - so the company folds, or they will constantly develop their product & either cause one of the curent big names to fold as they wipe the market with low cost quality product, or end up selling it to one of the big names to re- brand in 30 years time.

Just because their publicity dept decided to use Google translate rather than hiring in a native speaker to write their sales bumf for the English speaking markets doesn't mean their engineers & factory aren't to a high standard. But that;s not an area we are ever likely to see in detail. The proof will be in the proverbial pudding.

Would I buy one right now? - No.
Would I maybe consider it after a few years in service with feed back in Forums such as this to show how they actually perform well / good spares availability etc? - Maybe - it will depend on the product.

*guess- but it's a fact that that sort of % differnece makes a big visual difference to that kind of plastic without altering the mechanical properties and I suspect is done to differentiate the umpteen thousand pound / euro / dollar difference in the two brands for what is essentially the same car.

Birmingham?

I'm afraid it's a good bit further up than that. You never seen Geordie Shore?
