Zodiac Launching Wheels Query

Couldn't find an Aerotec anywhere so have ended up with a Cadet 340 Light Roller. Looks the same as the Zodiac active V to me apart from the keel is separate to the high pressure floor whereas on the FR it is all attached.

It came with the Zodiac launch wheels. It's obvious how they work when in the down position but I can't work out how to attach them to the boat when they are up. They have had the bolt "beefed up" as I was told they aren't too robust but I don't think modified in any other way. There is a "lug" half way down where they attach to the boat and then secured with the thumb screw. I can't work out how they are secured.

Can anyone explain or even better supply a photo of how the wheels attach in the up position. As they are now when using the boat they would have to be removed which kind of defeats the whole object really.

Any info greatly appreciated.

I don't think they're designed to be attached in the up position, which isn't brilliant. I like Nick's idea though and will try that next time!

The Zodiac wheels are crap. I would remove the fittings and seal the holes. Then get a decent set of wheels with BIG air types - at least 12 inch ones. Ones that flip and lock in the upright position. This will enable you to self recover over sand, large shingle and ramps.
Mine cost £65 and are worth every penny.

I've found the Zodiac wheels to be pretty good actually. The only drawback is they don't flip up - but it looks like Nick might have the answer to that.

Where did you find good flip up wheels with 12" tyres for £65?

Yep depends on which Zodiac ones you have mine have BIG air wheels & I do like being able to take them off!

Hi Nick

I noted the Disco 3 sticker and your location - snap!

Just had a nightmare with my brand new bombard wheels as they locked on the first time of use due to galling.

Took them back (attached to boat) to Barnet Marine and a new set arrived direct from France in less than a week!

I'm also on Disco3.co.uk. All I need now is the Areotec to go with the car to really join the club. Got a Zodiac 340 LR until I find one, but don't tell the wife I'm looking for one!

I have the heavy duty genuine Zodiac wheels like Nick Hearne's as in his images. The type that fits to a tab at the bottom then secures with a crank bolt through the transom higher up. They seem to fit most Zodiacs from the 70s but does anyone know if they still fit the very latest Cadets etc?
