Transom drain placement

This is a shot of the transom of my Avon FRB 380. I'm curious as to why the drain plug is so far off center and mounted high relative to the floor, and consequently above the water that may collect.

I never paid much attention to this but after a downpour while out in the boat I went to drain the water once it was on the trailer and found the drain plug not very useful. I ended up shop vaccing the water out when I got home.

Is this typical placement for drain valves on a SIB?

Definitely a drain plug - with a valve or fitted/screw plug? Just wondering if it was an aftermarket fitting or gland etc? Yes, they would normally be at the lowest point for a simple drain even for larger Y Class style elephant trunks etc.

Odd it’s that far out but it’s position height from the hull is correct just too far up the deadrise meaning it won’t drain quite a lot of water.

Ours was pre-built onto the transom and is dead center at the very bottom, maybe 1cm max from the bottom of the hull.

Not sure why but that Was a standard placement for many soft bottom Avon models.
