Thames - Oxford Area

Taking the SIB to Oxford this weekend and just wondering if anyone has any experience of this area?

Just looking for a simple slipway or low bank.

Websites say day tickets are available from all locks. Where is the nearest lock to the city centre?

Thanks!

Spent quite a bit of time on the Thames in our cruiser. Osney lock is right in the centre and you could easily put on sib in from the moorings just above the lock, they have a low bank and you can park alongside on East st.

East Street would be my suggestion too.

Upstream is good SIB territory, and you could head to the Trout at Godstow, or you could head down through Oxford - the Isis Tavern at Iffley lock has been getting good reviews recently although I haven't been there for a while.

The Cherwell looks tempting, and you can go up for a look round, but there is nowhere to moor. We tried it one evening last year, en route to the legendary Atomic Burger on the Cowley Road. We found what looked like a good place to leave the boat, but it turned out to be the grounds of a school and we ended up climbing over locked gates and walls in a very dodgy-looking fashion!

Thanks chaps,

Is there much of a drop from the bank to the river at east street? Just wondering if I'd struggle to lift the outboard (40kg) onto the transom.

Those pubs look great! Can't wait for a beer or 2.

Drop is about a foot at most, I'm sure I have a picture, will dig it out when I get home.
