Swing up wheels

Try as I may, I accept defeat

I bought this lot used with the Trem launch wheels already fitted.
Apparently they swing up? Well the tube end is square so there is no way this will allow the assembly to swing up surely, would it not need a radius or round end as the 90deg right angle of the square will dig into the bracket thus preventing it from swinging 180deg? The only way I can see of possibly stowing these wheels is to lean off the back of the boat once launched, pull out the pin & completely remove the wheel unit, flip it over & re attach it upside down while trying not to ditch it in the water!

Am I incredibly stupid, have the brackets been incorrectly fitted or is this just a really bad design?

I'd rather be embarrassed on this than find it's the latter.

You should have fitted the mounting brackets nearer to the centre of the transom thus allowing the launch wheels to swivel around with the wheel clearing the inside of the tube.
Alternatively use them as they are and remove them once launched.

As stated in the OP, I did not fit them, I bought it like this, but the issue is that the square tube profile on the end of the stainless vertical section will not allow the units to turn 180 deg, so re-fitting these without getting out of the boat, say in a river would be near impossible. But I can also see your point that even if they did flip up the wheels would hit the tubes.

Can you swap the wheels around, then the wheels would be facing inward away from the tube, you would then need to reposition holding pin that keep the wheels up

No no no. I have these exact wheels. Sorry but its the latter, doh. They are on a slot, so need to be pushed down an inch or so before they swing. If you get someone to hold boat up and kick down on wheel it will dangle freely. Just make sure you keep them pulled to the outer arc else they mess the plastic fitting up.

They are really for a bigger boat because the other bracket is supposed to locate onto a pin on the transom. Mine are on a quicksilver 430 which weighs in around 200kg and they are going strong 5 yrs later even being pulled through mud and gravel.

You'll laugh when you try it. Would have been obvious if you'd taken bolt off

Ok, looked at pics closer. Previous person was daft. Pin is present but should be low down to help support as its not needed when in up position. And whole main bracket should have been put higher. Therefore brackets wrong way round because pin plate wouldn't be flush when down. They are supposed to bend under boat to help balance weight. Funny, but a bit of a pain to change. Will prob be ok to leave as a light boat but puts a lot more strain on bracket

Ahh, if happen to have any pic's of yours fitted correctly I'd be grateful. If not I'll have to have a fiddle (so to speak)

Swap wheels and brackets over the wheels will be on in side so should clear the tubes ,
It worked for me

The wheels will swing clear of tubes because they pass the clinical part. Look at my pic. It would tip over if wheels were inwards.

Gents, thanks for your help & pics, so much simpler when I can see how they should fit, so I think as said the mount is upside down as well which is probably why they wont tilt, I'll blow it up this weekend, have another fiddle now I understand & let you know how it works out.

The OP's wheels are mounted too low. You will need to take the brackets off, fill the mounting holes, and redrill new ones higher up. Of course also reversing the sides the wheels are on. You will also need to move the mounting pins from above to down below.

You want a couple of centimeters of clearance between the wheels and the hull. The taller you go the more unstable the boat will be, and it might tip over on you.

Hi just thought I would shine some light.i have these on my sib firstly the 2 holes above are more or less where the top of the leg should be and towards the centre.Also the bracket on the side of leg should be against the transom,these are for locking into 2 screw type bolt stop wheels from folding when pushed up and located, Hope this helps
