Might be worth finding out about petrol stations near the water or inviting a large rib as boat cover and fuel barge

Hopefully no , but things can change in about 20 seconds from all fine to definately not fine- at which point all my points and Avocets come into play.

I defo think a mini trial would be fun - not only to practice but also to enjoy some SIBing with no pressure .

Easter weekend somewhere maybe ?

If you did a run from Portsmouth, Langston or Chichester harbour over to say Bembridge or Priory bay for picnic or pub run then at least if the weather was blowing you could have plan B & explore in one of the above & the brave could pock there noses out if they wanted!

You could always ask for RNLI Sea Safety advisor to come down and have a quick talk and Do SEA check on the boats as part of trail.

I know there is few sea safety advisors lurking about forum - but don't know any by name at your neck of woods! but I am sure I could point you in right direction if needed ...

Proposal ( of sorts )

All , as the usual expansive thread is developing if anyone wants to PM exact thougths and details I'll try and summarise . Depending on the outcome I am happy to take on planning etc for a get together as I think SIBs are far more fun pound for pound than any RIB I’ve been on.

I have picked up the names of everyone expressing an interest/posting on going round the island and do feel a days outing with no pressure to be anywhere at anytime would allow everyone to have a good day and also to get ideas and share setups etc.

+ The other usual Solent based suspects in RIBs or SIBS

Easter weekend would seem to be a decent time for a one ‘dayer’ or an over night camping thing. RIBNET is an inclusive bunch so any excuse - no one excluded for having a big boat/ engine or not !

I'll ignore the RIBs ( in a nice way as possible) .....

There seems to be a mix of boats/ engines and experience and as suggested a list of people/ boats etc is needed ( maybe PM me with these? ) . I’m never keen on posting my name / phone number as it generally ends up with endless spam calls and emails – hence a less public sharing of info via PMs suggested .

So maybe looking at the long Easter weekend as a start who can and cant make this ?

Locations – if we are talking about round the IOW then I think maybe somewhere that can simulate anything we may run into must be a good start, but easy to get to and park/ camp if needed.

Luckily the New Forest is handy for the solent , but from other threads suggestions have been ;

Poole Harbour ( somewhere ) – Varied waters in and out of harbour
Christchurch – I know this very well and allows much the same as Poole
Lymington - easy Solent access
Calshot - easy Solent access
Portsmouth - easy launch from Camber slip - but ‘technical’ in need to speak to harbour master to cross channel etc – which is simple for some but may be not others .
Langstone - 20 years since I went out of there - but will look at a chart
Chichester - used to dinghy sail there but again will look at a chart

PS - I'm doing this from 'work' so please excuse typos , spelling etc .

Spreadsheet and project plan in hand ! Thanks for PMs keep them coming.

Seems several have thought posted about SIB meets/ trip / cruises ( can you cruise in a SIB? ) etc

So maybe in due course they will all come together in some kind of SIBfest - good name Lee ....it shall be known as this in your honour ...
