Need to find a lake in the south west!!!

I have now purchased a Zodiac Futura MK11 and a 15HP Mercury outboard, my next task is to run the engine in! I would prefer to this on a lake rather than river/ sea. Do you know of any locations within the south west?

Lakes in South West

Have you considered the Cotswold Water Park at South Cerney?

It's only a short distance from Cheltenham.

They are a bit small so it could be a bit boring but if running in
is your aim then they might do?

Cheers

Paul

Try the reservoirs to the south west of Bristol, Chew Valley springs to mind.

Or what about on the river Severn around Gloucester

The 2 main reservoirs south of Bristol, Chew Valley + Axbridge are both a definite NO GO to any powerboats, I've sailed on both and they are only allowed a limited amount of rescue boats.

Blagdon lakes could be a possibility, but very doubtful.

Bristol docks- could be a 6 knot speed limit but you be able to give the engine a run out.

Through the Lock at Bristol Marina then down the Avon until you get to the M5 Bridge then turn around and head back up. A 2 hour jaunt if you obey the speed limit.

Dont be put off by going through the lock, its easy and the guys who run it are really good lads. You get canoes and all sorts going through.

I take it by 'South West', you actually mean South of the western UK? Not Devon, Cornwall, West Somerset and the Western corner of Dorset.

Cotswold Water Park's good - I think some lakes will let you launch for a set fee - not sure which ones though as the one we use is part of a sailing club & super fussy (not worth the hassle to take the RIB there when there is sea to be played with).

Cardiff any good to you ? It's nicer than Bristol for roughly the same price if you don't count the bridge sting. It's sea but it's enclosed so practically a big & fun lake, with no speed limit

Where are you based ?
