White battery pole on the rear, snap lights of the relevant colour tied on the side if only the odd occurrence, or battery lights you can open up and get out if more than very occasional.

If a SIB limits its self to < 7kts is that OK to just display a white or is the fact it can do 20kts the issue?

They make a set of navigation lights that are powered by D-Cell batteries that would work good in a pinch. No "main" battery required.

I was on a stupid phone which dropped its signal and lost my first attempt - so I was unusually brief!

Mr Chappelow filled in the blanks although technically it is "capable of no more that 7 kts" (or words to that effect) so most SIBs dont qualify even if driven slowly. In reality possibly OK unless something bad happens and then the fine toothcomb comes out and fingers start wagging.

the bit you said you stood to be corrected on.

at MC says - < 7m and < 7 knots - all round white is enough. If capable of > 7 knots should have red/green sectors too.
