honwave drain plug assembly

HI there I found my honwave wasn't draining of rainwater cos of leaves bunging up the drain hole so I took the drain plug assembly out. One of the seals is a bit iffy so I thought I'd get a replacement drain plug assembly e.g. from Trident Marine. Then I saw in am old thread including a comment from jeffstevens : "... if you swap out the whole thing it means breaking the seal through the transom." Does that mean I've messed something up?I was thinking of sticking some sealant (what sort?) around the inner circumference of the hole b4 I fit the replacement? Any advice pls? E.g from jeff? TIA, Terry.
