Yes, I am really fed up not being able to join in. Improving slowly, but not fit enough for tomorrow. And the company wants me to go back out to Saudi Arabia in a weeks time! Not a chance.

A call sign is not a boat name ( I think ) .

ie - my old boat ( named Nestor) - had a callsign of MPDC3.......

Boat name/description and call sign are two completely different things.

As far as Ofcom is concerned, call sign only applied to ship radio license (fixed). For portable radios, the 'T' number is analogous.

When making a distress/emergency call, as well as vessel name/description, the MMSI is also included along with call sign/'T' number. This makes the call unique to the vessel/person.

For normal chit chat, harbour etc the boat name or a description (red sib as discussed) if unnamed would be used - no call sign, 'T' number of MMSI would be specified.
