Don't panic. There's plenty of time for me to find a compelling reason not to be able to go!

All those years ago a casual question in RibNet led to me sitting my SIB in JoG harbour looking out into the Pentland Firth and thinking, "how the heck did I talk myself into this?"

Brian and JK pitched in right at the beginning and were there to see the adventure through. It is great to see them volunteering again. Also frightening of course as last time I speculated about a RIB trip it came true! If JK and Brian are involved it WILL happen.

So far then, if I have this right.

Support Boats:
  • mdt with his 5m Humber
  • Brian with his 8m Scorpion

SIBs:
  • Moi - 3.4m Quicksilver, 15 hp Mariner
  • JK - 3.8m Bombard, 25hp Mariner

Okay JK, time to shift the thread!

Keith (look what I've found) Hart

PS for the newer forum members it's the brackets...

Round the cape

Sounds a great idea, myself and my girlfriend would love to join you in our 4.2 zodiac futura with 25hp.could you please send approx time you are hoping to do it next year and then I can put it in my diary. We have had quite a lot of experience touring the western isles in our sib, next week we are setting off from Kinloch Hourn and following the coast up to Torridon via Sandaig islands, Crowlin isles, Applecross and Rona hopefully doing about 140 mile in the week weather permitting cheers Gary

Okay then this is the plan for the planning bit!

I'll take my SIB over to Droman, just north along the coast from Kinlochbervie as according to the OS map (Explorer number 446) there is a pier at Port Chaligaig. I'll take a look at the launching facilities and any local camping and B&Bs.

The only possible landfall in case of emergency between there and Balnakel Bay would appear to be Sandwood Bay which has good landing on the beach but no road access.

I'll also check out the facilities at Balnakeil Bay.

I'll also need to check out when there is any planned activity at the MOD range at Cape Wrath for 2010. We don't want to get in the way!

Zodiacman - date to be decided but I would like opinions from all those involved.
