Petrol. V-8 that shuts down to 4 cylinders when you don't need the extra power. ~20mpg w/o trailer, ~13mpg w/ my 7.3m diesel i/o Willard behind it.

I wish Jeep had a diesel in the States. They only offered a diesel Grand Cherokee over here for one year (2008). I looked across the US for one (ebay, etc.) but they were very rare.

I also wish we could still get Defenders over here!

Another thought, I'm in California and the 2008 Jeep diesel wasn't even available here due to more stringent emission regulations (CA emissions more stringent that National laws). I had been looking at how to import it and get it registered....it would have been a pain.

We're finally getting a couple of small(er) SUV diesels available in CA: VW Toureg, Mercedes Blu-tec, Audi Q7, BMW X5 35d. Unfortunately, none of these are really "rugged"!

Sedans/wagons:
BMW 335d, VW Golf/Jetta, Mercedes, Audi A3

All in all, a pretty weak offering!!!

That would be less than the 3500kg that the smaller Dai hatsu Fourtrak can tow then.

LR4's are really nice but are ~15,000 USD more than the Jeep and they're taller so they make a tighter fit in a lot of urban parking garages (height 1.841m versus Jeep 1.745m!

(and I learned something, they can tow 500 lbs more than my Jeep, so I think that they would win the mid-sized SUV towing challenge putting the Jeep in 2nd place)
