Trailer Wheelbase

Can anyone shed some light on the ideal distance between the axles of a twin axle trailer? I have a new trailer ( and Rib for that matter) and it looks to me that the wheels are too far apart. I am guessing that the ideal is to position the wheels as close as possible so that they are just behind the COG to give the desired nose weight.

I'd say your guess is spot on. Plus the further apart the axles are, the worse it will be to manouver when towing.
