The 7 meter restriction does not apply to boat trailers.

To quote HM government...

"Exceptionally, where the trailer is specially designed to carry long loads (eg one or more boats, gliders), the 7m limit does not apply."
Good find! That's a fairly recent addition to the gov web site but useful ammunition for when a polie man stops you. It would be good the find the actual piece of legislation that info is derived from. Nevertheless, good info to have.

How much do you want it?
Off the top of my head it’s Construction and Use Regs. Search for the term “indivisible load” - if you are really good I’ll maybe even fish it out...

I don't actually need it. I've read the indivisible load stuff in the past but I don't recall the exception for purpose built trailers. This always seemed to be the grey area. Perhaps it's been clarified. Pikey's link to the glider guys take on it appeared to be fairly specific.

Thanks for the offer though.

'Indivisible load' appears in the Road Vehicles (Construction & Use Regulations) 1986 & the trailer refers to "trailer constructed and normally used for the conveyance of indivisible loads of exceptional length"
The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 No. 1078
Scroll down to: "PART II
REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE CONSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF VEHICLES"
