Towbars & Electrics part of your MOT

I'm sure most of you are aware that your towbar has been tested, as part of your MOT, for a few years now:

http://www.compasstrailers.com/TowbarsMOT.pdf

However, your electrics became part of the test in March of this year:

http://webarchive.nationalarchives.g...RCH%202013.pdf

Only 13pin sockets are tested, so most boat owners won't need to be concerned, as the majority are 7pin (single) socket electrics. However, for those of you that run 13pin electrics, check them before your MOT, as you don't want an 'easy' fail.

If you have two sockets with 7 pins each you are ok, it's the single 13 pin one you have to worry about, but hay you want it working which ever one you have

My trailer lights(old fashion 7 pin ) used to work perfect on my 2009 model car.
Changed this summer to a new opel zafira tourer , now the fog light does not work as it should anymore. Technically, trailer lights work ok, but not with the new socket.

I wonder should I change somehow the wiring in the trailer or is it something that has to be done with the car....

Well its on my 130 and I take the tow bracket off so I can drop the tail gate down and the 12 n plugged in behind the rear wheel ( useful ) and got corroded so wired the 13 pin back in the loom and now I have both to play with 12n or 13 pin

IMO the 13 pin plug and sockets are far superior than the 7 pin type. Think you get a lot less bad connections!!
