Whilst the mr2 turbo and mx6 quite clearly are fairly Chav, the mr2 at least was a fair handling sportscar for the money...though the mx6 was just cr*p!

my wife has the 1.8i sport mx5 04 plate with LSD, last of the best.

Chewy, she has a black labrador in the front seat of it She must be a northern hairdresser with tweed jacket and gold hoop earings. (country and chav)

Its all horses for courses, the mr2 does about 9mpg (heavy CHAV foot) and mines got just under 300bhp, mx6 is a much better daily drive.

My gran agrees - she's had 3 of them and thinks they're great. She takes the roof glass out to make room for the zimmer.

I think all the S's have a fairly firm ride and I found the seats not too comfy on the S6 I had, as they are meant to be chucked around so have sports recaros in them. This did not help my dodgy back. The quattro technology on the other hand is very impressive,particularly in the wet, but not in the snow I found,(tyres were too wide) so much so that when Audi put it into their rally cars and couldnt stop winning all the championships, they had to change the rules

I bought mine new but lost a shed load in depreciation over 4 years, and have always bought 2nd hand since. It didnt cost me a bean to run all that time, as it was on Audis variable service plan and I didnt do massive mileages

as you say hp the last of the mx5 were a great car, we have a 04 plate 2.0 mx5 , great fun, i think its 145 hp or something but goes well for its size,

im in a very privileged position with cars as i look after a very very large collection of vintage / classic and up to date sports cars for a good friend, so i could never compete with that,they are all wrapped up at the mo but i start getting them out in april.. if i need some serious feck off power,i just grab the keys, or starting handles for some.. yeeeeha

Kieran, Paul and Muzz thanks for your comments. We like VAG cars and it would seem that a preowned TLSi would be right for us.

Willfinch, sadly as I have gotten older Ive found my eyes don't resolve images as quickly as they used to so my decision making whilst driving is slowing down. As a result of that I rarely go over 100mph on A roads and pretty much keep to the speed limits in town. So I guess 300 hp would be wasted on me, I'm quite pleased with the 220 we get from our Cupra though. So you enjoy it whilst you still can

I've always had a soft spot for the MR2's since about 12 years ago the police released a video of a car chase that went through three counties. The driver had phenominal control most of which had to be from the MR2, and was untouchable. They finally stopped him by blocking the road with an Artic. He was using it as a getaway car from a bank job. Out of interest what do you use yours for!

I have a Audi A3 Quattro 1.8 T with removable tow bar. I tow my 5.5 Meter, Bombard DB 550, in fact from Sunny Fife to Corpach then Inverness back to Fife.

Tows good, I use it for Launching too down slip, even pulled a Volvo estate car up slip after it was stuck!

Only thing i have found out, I am my 4th/5th set of Rear springs, and i only tow my boat 2 to 4 times a year now. My car is is 2000 model had it from new. I live with it since its only £150 to replace them!

I used to tow and launch my 5.8m Prosport with an A3 1.9tdi with no problems. You knew it was hanging off the back on the hills, but was fine for the job and the slipway, and it was 2WD. I then upgraded to an A3 Sportback with the TFSi 2 litre petrol (turbo) DSG box. It was effortless to tow the boat, so I can't see any problem with a 5.4 on the back. I'd certainly choose quattro if I had the chance because 200 horses through the front wheels is just a bit too much in the wet on smooth roads.

I wouldn't go for the S3, certainly not with the 3.2. It's much thirstier and also heavier at the front, which affects handling.

Have you tried one ? IMO the 's' are the sorted ones for handling special shocks, springs, different roll tech, and electro gizmology etc etc

As for the 3.2 .. well .... after dropping the boat off .. one needs to get to Tesco like sh*t off a shovel before they close incase you run out of gin ...

I happily stand up and say I have 'never' experienced grip from a big saloon like the S6 which is why I bought one .. after my order the dealer said you'll never kill yourself in one of these .. it'll be the wifes Nissan Micra .. I thought OMG what does he mean.. what he meant was you'll be so used to chucking the thing around, then you step into something else and you wont expect what you get ! Crikey .. I mean I'd already bought it he didnt have to sell me it any more

I haven't tried the S3, I do admit. However, my Sportback is the 'sport' version, which is therefore setup in a very similar way WRT suspension, springs, ESP, ABS, EBD, etc etc. Can't remember any more of the TLA's at the moment. And IIRC there's less than 1 sec difference 0-60. It's more than adequate for me, so why have something heavier and thirstier?

The s3 isn't heavier than the 2.0t s line. The s3 is the same engine but with a slightly different turbo unit. The heavier 3.2 is a v6 lump that sound awesome but is useless, thirsty and not great at handling.
