Quad Bikes

Are there any Quad bikes big enough to tow my RIB on the road and beach?

Legally or not?

Some of the biggest Yams will tow about 600kg. Polaris do some monsters that will tow about 700kg.

you can get a suzuki SJ410 or / SJ413 for the same price / tax and cheaper insurance than a quad bike, they can go the same places too

Yeah, i used to tow a avon adventure 4m with a SJ413. They have 4wd and a low range option so they are a breeze. They only do flat out without towing, but you'll be able to tow at 60 and launch anywhere.

i launch my 5.5m humber with a 1.3 jimny now, easy peasy!!

Nice one, they go for a good price too. Any known problems to look out for? What's the TAX and insurance like on them?

tax is £120 per year as they are a small engine (pre march 2001), biggest thing to look for is rust. you can pick a jimny up for £1k, the jimnys are all 1.3's in this country, might be a high miler but should be no rust on that as they aren't as old. They still have the 4wd and low box as well. I pay currently £150 per year fully comp on my jimny for a 3000mile policy, although the renewal has come in at £250 (including recovery).I'm 33 and have no no-claims on this as it is a new 2nd poilcy. I had a polaris 500cc quad before, tax the same, insurance double, and very prone to getting nicked in vans.

http://motors.shop.ebay.co.uk/items/...Q_sopZ2QQ_scZ1

here are a few to look at, only thing to check on a jimny is that the 4wd engages ok, they have vacuum locking hubs which can play up, easy to test, start engine, check 4wd lights up on dash and doesn't flash

The Suzukis are brilliant off road - just terrible on it - great fun though.

As you said rust is the biggest killer - and people have the cheek to attack LRs!!!

The jimnys are better than the old SJ's coils rather than leaf springs, bit underpowered for faster road but as you say great fun and good off road. Keep an eye on the tin worm

If driving on sand don't use mud plugger tyres - the less tread the better - and letting the tyres down to about 10psi works wonders as well - better still avoid soft sand like the plague!!!

The Jimny's are good little cars. I had one on holiday and with four of us it pulled alot better than I thought. Just don't try and fling it around corners like I did as it rolls a bit.
Nice car though, I was looking at getting one for playing in.
Try Anchor Supplies for waffle boards, you get the ex MOD ones cheap, struggle to lift both at once though.

I hate to say it but Fronteras are very good too. Got a shock when me and my mate went for a play in the snow, 2ft of fresh snow up a steep hill on normal tyres in high box and it walked it. My mate can't drive for toffee either.
He paid £350 for his.

I'll buy you a tractor if I can see the look on your lasses face when you leave it on the garden next to the SR!
