It was the raised slabs on the inside of the turn that was the culprit!!

My car came with Pirellis, at 18k I changed them for Michelin as they were on the limit, done 47k now, fronts are starting to look iffy but the rears have plenty left in them - The forum doesn't rate the Pirellis much either.

Must admit I've quite enjoyed this season so far, Pirelli we asked by the FIA to supply a tyre that degrades and looses performance to give us racing which is what they've done, not sure it;s done their road tyre buisness much good though. The problem today are not the same as we had a few weeks ago when they were delaminating.

Just a few questions for Pirelli.
As you might gather, I am not a fan of their road tyres either.

Just my opinion, I thought the Pirelli's actually turned an otherwise drab British GP in to a more interesting one. Fair enough Hamilton was the first victim (which was unfortunate), but without the safety car coming out it might well have been a for gone conclusion who won, Nico wouldn't have been pushing Vettel so hard and his car might well have won......Again.

I think all this talk of unsafe tyres is crap, unpredictability is what makes motor sport so exciting. You wouldn't want a certain team to get some decent predictable rubber again would you?

If you want to even the field in terms of performance the FIA will have to look at adding a weight penalty in to the winning cars for the next race.

How can random tyre explosions not be unsafe? What about if you were driving down the motorway and you tyre lets go at 70mph, how safe would that be.

I'm with Andy ..F1 is supposed to be about excitment & yes while safety is key F1 has always looked to push the limit. It was explained to me once and F1 car should be designed to fail as it crossed the finish line - otherwise its over engineered and therefore carrying excess weight etc .

Of course the relaibility now built into the regs helps the cost reductions and allows more than six cars to finish which makes it more interesting .

IMHO tyre degradation can be managed by the teams and drivers through car set up and driver style, therefore knowing when to pit etc and the strategy that goes into that makes the racing challenging for the teams and interesting for the spectator as all laps need to be raced, as tyres can fall off the cliff in the last lap and drivers can come from fifth to first.

Exploding tyres, aren't predicable and whilst make the race exciting could have resulted in fatalities had the circumstances been different.

Hi Pete,
I think that you are paraphrasing one Colin Chapman there
Having owned an original Elan in my very much younger days I am of the opinion that he took that philosphy rather too far

The thing is it wasn't the tyres that were a problem, it was the drivers going over the kerb too much that was.

The simplest way to make F1 more interesting is to give drivers a qualifying time 'penalty' of say 0.25 seconds for every point they currently hold in the drivers' championship.

ie. a driver with 100 points would have 2.5 seconds added to their final qualifying time, whereas a driver with only 20 points would only be penalised by 0.5 seconds.

This would effectively demote the fastest cars/drivers down the grid order, forcing them to have to overtake the slower cars rather than just romp away from them when the lights go green.

Still one of the best cars I ever owned - looked fantastic and went so well (thats when it was going ) - Its the only car of its era that can still hold its head high in performance terms compared to modern equivalents and hot hatches

But that's not the case anymore is it, engines and cars have to last multiple races and there is no refueling mid race! All a bit silly IMHO
