Zodiac Hurricane 733

Does anyone have any experience with the performance of these? The one I am considering has had i/o 260hp volvo diesel removed and I would convert to a single 225/250 outboard. Zodiac claims 39mph with the above i/o engine set up. I know that this a heavy military/commericial boat but I am not interested in super high speed. Any comments please. Thank you.

Built like the proverbial brick outhouse. Used extensively by military/coastguard/commercial in North America. Canadian Coastguard runs them here with twin 150 Opti's. I'll ask my buddy who is a FRC specialist how quick they go!

You might give Zodiac a ring and see if they have opinion on the optimum horsepower setup given the conversion from inboard...

the Zodiac Hurricane 733 is the model I used for the circumnavigation - handles well in all weather and a very proven hull by the military.

I have run these extensively, excellent in all weather. Max hp for the 733 is twin 150's.

I just had a new hurricane 640 delivered 2 months ago we are running twin suzuki 140 4strokes, top speed fully loaded(12 passengers) is 48 mph.

The only problem with these RIBS is the price when bought new!

One thing I forgot to mention 99% of zodiac hurricanes are cored with balsa. so check out the hull really to make sure that water has not made it into the balsa core. If the balsa has got wet in small areas it is not too bad to fix, but it is something to keep in mind.
