Zodiac F470 Hull Repair Question(s)

Trying to do some cosmetic work on my Zodiac and I have 2 different areas of question.

1. Some of the lift handles have fell off so what is the best glue / epoxy to use to re attach the handles?

2. It looks like one of the previous owners tried to apply some kind of coating on the lower ⅓ and bottom of the boat and it is really peeling off like dead skin sort of. I’d like to sand or wire brush that dead stuff off and apply something to make it look better. Some kind of paint?

If you look just below the red circled area you can see the peeling areas.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

The boat is hypalon. So just search hypalon repair on here and youll find a wealth of information on it.

I order glue from nrs. Make sure to get the accelerator (makes it a 2 part glue)

Make SURE it is low humidity when you glue. As low as possible. Inside a shop with a dehumidifier running for a few days is Ideal.

You can use a heat gun in combination with MEK before your final press together. 150f target temp not much higher than that.

Do not wire brush that bottom stuff. Youll damage the hypalon. Hard to tell what it is thats peeling off. You should probably just live with it or peel it off by hand. There are a few hypalon paints out there but you should probably not use them because they dont last too long.

Good luck & get that boat out on the water!

The usually very well informed 95gstnj is mixing up the F470 with the FC470.
The F-470 happens to be a PVC boat. Shocking as it is...only the FC is Hypalon.
So - you'd need different glue, but also available from NRS.

The F470 is hypalon?

However the G470 is PVC.

Best regards

The G 470 is PVC as stated by Brage. F (FC) 470’s are hypalon. The pics Darren posted as an older F 470 with the stiff PVC handles. On many boats both recreational and professional/military boats Zodiac has used PvC accessories such as D rings and handles on hypalon boats/tubes.

Sorry for confusion. Yes - the G is the PVC version. And the F has some parts PVC.
Here is an interesting guide as to how to interface-glue PVC to Hypalon.
