Oh, sorry... I saw those long black stripes but I guess it's reinforcements? How much life do you think it's left in the tubes and hull?

Ahhh.... I thought you didn't like my dirty tubes with fish guts and blood all over

The Searider is definitely worth it. I honestly would not worry about the tubes, not only because Avon tubes are known to last a long time but also because ncp's tubes were well taken care of and refurbed with new rub rails. There are professional tube makers on the forum and they can give you some info also if you want to ask on the main forum. Send ncp a message, he will tell you about the trip he just took on that rib..further out than I have been.

The Avon SR5.4 is popular over across the Atlantic but not too many people know about them over here. It can handle more than my Zodiac because it is a bit narrower and has a deeper V hull so the ride will be more comfy with less slap in the chop. The hull also has a water ballast system that makes it very safe and stable when at rest.

I would definitely give NCP a yell about his boat.
I speak from first hand experience.
I bought my 7M from him.
He will provide full and honest disclosure about everything on the boat.
He is meticulous about the maintenance and upkeep of his boats.
I know that he recently went over 40 miles offshore with his wife in his Avon with no concerns or issues.

I'm a bit confused: you are recommending the Zodiac Searider that "ncp" has. All I can find in the classified section is an Avon Searider being sold by user "engarom".

I sent ncp a private message asking for a link to his add. The one Justin sent the second time goes to a dead page.

I did notice a lot of people here buy, refurbish and re-sell these things and that's ok, but if it's anything like the used car market here in NorCal, it could be BAD, I got burned so many times, lol...

Sorry about this, I'm totally new to the rib buying experience and trying to assimilate and learn as much as possible but it can be overwhelming. I want to get a good boat that mostly is SAFE in rough water and will not let me calling on channel 16 for help as once in a while I will have my kids with me.

So is Avon Searider 5.4 the same as Zodiac Searider?

Thanks for all the help and for putting up with me...

Available Avon 5earider 5.4m - Southern California

I'm sure that NCP will respond to your PM when he gets a chance. Since winning the lottery, his life has been pretty hectic.

From what I know of him, he is not a buy, and resell for profit guy. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I believe he enjoys the whole rebuild process.

It's the trifecta for sure...marriage, house, baby.

Thanks and agreed - I think you have to sell more than one boat to be considered a flipper/for-profit boat guy. It will be a little tough to sell the Avon as it does 80% of what I need out a boat - I just can't overnight on it or take more than 3 people surfing/diving. And, even though my 6 month pregnant was ok with going crossing the 46 miles over to Catalina Island, I agree with her that it probably won't be the boat for us when we become a family of three.

Watch out for wood rot on old Avons.

Bring a screwdriver or pick to verify the transom isn't mush. Yank a lower engine bolt if you want to be sure.

It turned out to be an Avon Adventure 560 in late generation Seasider colors!

Still bought it... Basically bought the outboard and trailer and got a free boat with.

I'll post before and after pictures at a later date... I've got too many little things to fix at the moment.
