Blown out of the water!

Well almost

Was the camera boat for a new Spike Tv series called "Deadliest Warrior" last week here in San Diego.
One of the gun crew shot this through the gun port on the Californian.
So looking down a 6 pounder deck gun.
(A little blurry, as the camera focused on the port ) But you can make out the camera guy behind me.

The series covers contests between "unlikely foes "
We were doing the Pirate side ,who is going to be against a "Knight" I think.
Series airs April

cheers Dal

Nope! they just fire cookies! (blank charge packed with flour for added effect)
But by the way the cameraman jumped when the broadside went off; I doubt they will be able to use the footage
Was difficult ,as I had to pace the ship just off the bow at about 7 knots. So the bow wave was pushing me around and trying to keep the shooting angle was difficult. Then the camera guy wanted me right alongside so they were firing muskets over our heads. At times I was about 4 ft from the ship , (so the captain was very happy we were in a RIB.)
Later on ,the swell picked up and we had to stop shooting and transfer the guy back to the ship. That was fun and the first real transfer I had done underway in that chop . Pulled up to the jacobs ladder and the bow waves pushed me back a couple of times before I got the speed matched
So for a whole days shooting,it will be interesting to see how many minutes (or seconds) make it to the final episode !!
cheers dal

Tape!!
They continued to have onboard fights and were pretending they had been boarded.
That after a lunch break of pasta and pitta bread sandwiches (must be the civilized type of pirate )
