VHF problem

Anyone any idea on this one.
Waiting to go into the dock yesterday, brother had used the handheld to radio for permission and after that I switched my Icom 411 on as well. Another boat comes along and radios in the same, can hear him clear as day but when lock head radioed the guy back I could only hear him on the handheld and nothing on the Icom 411. The other boat made his responce, again heard him.

Anyone any idea why the other boat was coming through but the dock wasn't? Both where around the same distance from me and the hand held picked both up no problem.

Hi, did you check the squelch setting on the 411?? could be the dock signal was below the squelch level.
