VHF Prices

I've been quoted £199 for an ICOM M421 fixed unit & £130 for a handheld Horizon HX270E backup. Prices look OK but has anyone bought cheaper and if so where please.

Horizon

Thanks Nik, Reason for looking at Horizon is a Lithium battery that lasts twice as long as the Ni Cad in the ICOM + spare battery tray & recharger accessories which come as standard rather than extra for about the same money.

ICOM price is a bit higher on Yachting Universal. Been talking to Alistair at www.mesltd.co.uk (retail arm of Navigate Marine Distribution). Net price shows £229 but talk and it goes down to £199. No doubt YU will do same if push them.

Jeff

Just remember if you have an Icom M31 or similar you can buy NiMh batteries for it - rated up to 2300maH

Correction. I have just cancelled this order.
Their web site state that most orders go out the next day. So, having waited nearly a week, I phoned them.
Their answerphone message says that they are away on holidays and not due back to the 20th.

Impressed? Not.

Nick.

thought I'd try and help here.

I do a fair bit of safety boating in plymouth with a group pf friends and we have used Standard (horizon) radios for years. Well impressed.

We have now updated to the Entel HT640 (its a standard which has been badged by the UK importer as Entel).

We brought a few at the boat show in jan from Piplers of Poole for about £150 each which included a submersible fist mic (an icom model badged as standard!)

The radios come with charger cradle and 12v cigar lighter cable and 240 mains cable. Battery is Lithium Ion and they are lasting us a few days use per charge.

The screen is big and clear and you can programme private channels if necessary for your sailing club etc.

We think they are better value than Icom and in our experience they sound clearer.

Hope this helps.

Ken.

Read a test on handheld vhfs and the Entel came out as the winner.

I have re ordered from Marine Electronic Services Ltd
I could have mine by thursday, and yes they were out of stock.

I am not in a particular hurry for mine, but what I find unforgivable is being given the impression it is on the way when it could be two weeks before it is even dispatched. And who knows, it could be out of stock when they return.

I know getting stuff delivered at home is a problem and for the past few days I have been putting off jobs that take me out of the house for extended periods of time in case I miss a delivery.

Sorry Yachting Universe, good price, shoddy service.

Nick.

Hi Nick,

Firstly sorry you canceled your order, it was stated on the purchase page that we were closed. Everyone has a right to a holiday dont they?! Anyway, if you choose to use me again let me know and i will do you a special price. Hope that sounds fair?

Regards

Stephen

I pride myself of on my service, and I take offence that our service is shoddy, as a mail order company the law states that I may take up to 28 days. I do normally ship next day, but you must of missed the nottice that said we were closed. Sorry for this, I take 2 weeks of per year, take calls at all times of the day and night and at weekends for which I appreciate is my job but when someone does not take the time to read through the order properly and then claim that I offer shoddy service is not really fair.

Correct stephen-rib, I missed your notice that you were were away, I dont know where you placed it, but I do not go scouring web pages looking for holiday notices. But in your confirmation email would have been a good start.
