It doesn't need to. The pump will emplty plenty of rainwater without discharging the battery and the charger will trickle it back up. They work in most light and I have had this working very well for 2 years (bar the rule pumps!)...

I got mine send over from England, worked fine for a few months. Then it stopped completly. Why??????

Modern solar panels still work on cloudy days - about 75-80% of capacity through cloud, from memory.

Even with your miserable South Wales weather ( ), a 5W solar panel will generate between 2 or 3 times the power you need each week to occasionally run your pump/top up your batteries.

I have been ogling at my new solar panel today. I actually took it out in the car for a drive. Its it 'an object of desire'.
