Rewire

The instruments on my rib will occasionally die then spring back to life. The trim indicator has stopped working completely.

Having looked inside the console, the wiring looks a bit messy.

My plan is to run 2 new cables from the battery, then wire the instruments via a new fusebox/splitter board.

There is an oil level/temp gauge/ rev counter and trim indicator.

Any thoughts or views?

Thnaks

From my experience make sure you give yourself plenty of time, once you start looking at your wiring closely you will find lots of jobs you didnt think you had to do as you end up finding things that need attention to the wiring as your doing it.

And buy quality wire and fixings, plus a quality wire crimper which can save lots of time doing connections if your not going to solder everything. A qulaity crimper for the battery terminals and also any other smaller type of terminal connectors, well worth the investment in the long run.

It is a very satisfying job once done.

Instruments usually powered from engine loom or control box not battery directly.

If you have a fixed VHF, then wire direct to the battery. There's normally an inline fuse on it anyway.

Comment regards buying best wire possible can't be under-estimated. Get tinned cable. Once it's fitted you can forget about it.

This company have always given me great service. Heatseal pre-insulated terminals > Terminals > Home > Vehicle Wiring Products Ltd

Their heat-seal connectors with adhesive (runs and fills voids when heated) are excellent.

No connection (excuse the pun) just a very satisfied customer.

+1 wiring to the gauges / controls etc are normally part of the engine wiring loom, so maybe need a bit of tidying up, but hopefully not re-wiring as that's a BIG job! but wiring to radio, lights etc is easy enough, as the others have said get good kit n draw out the wiring before you start, n take your time

Do NOT wire anything other than the alternator directly to the battery...For several reasons..
