Senario.

You annoy one of the local yachties but, lets say allegedly speeding,
he get's drunk in the club bar,
decides on revenge by putting your MMSI number into his DSC, then pressing the distress button!

Who gets all the aggrovation from coastguard? You or Him??

I hope you can not reprogram 7100 MMSI number by just a couple of keystrokes.
Nah.. Frightened of the day you never saw.

He could just call a mayday in your vessel name...who would know?

So everyone (read huge number) who ever owns a DSC radio has to have it disabled just incase Joe Bloggs takes a dislike to you. Doesn't make any sense to me.

try paul david , e mail p.david@navimo.co.uk not the most speedy of folk in answering e mails though! Let us know if you get any joy- it would be handy to know.
We brought a Cygnus back from S Ireland last year for a mate after he had bought it over there. Really was a very nice boat but the mmsi was 123456789 allegedly ! At least that was programmed into the set! Surprisingly it did not figure on the mars site . The mmsi was however easily changeable after a short telephone conversation with the uk distributors who were really helpful-but it wasnt a navman. Would cock the system up if everyone made up their own mmsi's but obviously it does happen - particularly out in the back of beyond where this one came from it seems.

I had the same problem and took her to our main distributer. Took 5 minutes and 40 euro's and he programmed the new number for me.
He told me that he is the only one in Holland who could do this.

Yes you have read correctly; 5minutes/40 euro's.

As a RNLI ILB Helm, I've spent hours in the cold on hoax voice distress's. Yes DSC would pinpoint the hoax, but arses would still get dragged out of bed just in case! Only consolation being we would get back quicker.

DSC's would not be disabled, you would just need to go via a dealer when shifting from one boat to the next, not exactly a weekly occurrence.

Removing the option, prevents the problem.

All sorted now, thanks to kev @ yacht bits - what a star.

Its not as simple as simply as pressing two buttons. Theres codes and things to enter, best contacting your local plastimo dealer if you need to do it.
