Icom M93D

Hi guys

I am in the market for a HH VHF , and think that it would be prudent to get one with DSC .

My Rib already has an Icom fixed Vhf fitted ... so i was looking at the M93D to keep menus n terminology etc similar .... sort off , I think .

Problem is ... I cant really find any hands on user reviews or impressions / comparisons etc for the M93D .... which bothers me more than a little .

Seems to be plenty of recommendations for the Std Hor 870 / 890 .... but nothing at all hardly for the Icom .

Does anyone have any experience actually using this unit ?

All i have read is that the menu system needs many presses of the arrow buttons to select even simple operations etc .... and isnt especially intuitive etc .

All my senses are telling me to go for the SH 890 .... but , the Icom " looks " nicer and cleaner and more modern etc ....

Help , please

cheers , Ian

Hi Ian

I have the compact Icom IC-M330GE and can’t fault it. Compact too.

Hi expertski

I am only looking for a Handheld model , i already have a fixed unit .

I did also think about buying an Icom M25 and a PLB ..... but i think for my novice boater usage i will just start with the Handheld DSC vhf ... i can get a PLB at a later date .

Hence my question regarding people’s actual hands-on usage of the M93D .

I am in Yorkshire , so actual shops stocking the M93D and the SH 890E seem to be a bit thin on the ground .... i think i may have to buy blind on this one .

anyone got the Icom out there ?

cheers

Ian

Can't comment on the icom, but have the 890 and very happy with it. Seems to have a reasonable range and easy enough to use.

Hi 36valley

Thanks for that , there are indeed plenty of people who are happy with the SH890 .... I think it would be a solid buy and do it well ... and also 50 quid cheaper than the Icom M93D .....

I am just trying to get some info on the Icom DSC model ..... there must be people out there using them .... or maybe not ....

The Icom just looks less chunky and like it would sit better in the hand or the pocket ...... Its just the menus and much button pressing interface that bothers me .

cheers , Ian
